Why Knowva?

Hi there! Welcome to Knowva. 

Have you ever paused to consider the vastness of the internet and its potential pitfalls, especially for young explorers and their parents, trying to be safe online? It's a bit like letting a child loose in a library where some books are best left on the top shelf.

This thought struck me one day as I watched my daughter navigate the digital world. The internet, while a treasure trove of information, is also a minefield of content that isn't always suitable for young eyes. As a former teacher, I've seen first-hand what it can do, and as a parent I desperately wanted to find safe online learning. 

In the past, we (by which I mean, I - James, the guy who made all of this, who put his face up there in the header image) had CD-ROMs like Encarta, a controlled environment where learning was both safe and fun. That feels about a billion years ago now. 

Today, unrestricted internet access feels like an overwhelming choice for parents. It's a dilemma many of us face: how to provide our children with the freedom to learn and explore without exposing them to the unsavoury aspects of the web.

Enter Knowva, my humble attempt to bridge this gap. It's an app designed to scale across devices, offering a mini encyclopaedia experience. Think of it as a digital sanctuary where children can safely explore general knowledge, complete with photos, video explainers, and read-aloud articles that make learning fun and safe.

It's a project I'm continually expanding, with plans to introduce even more content and categories.
