Support & Help

If you need help using Knowva, you’re in the right place. This page explains how to sign in, how to install Knowva on your device, and what to do if something doesn’t look quite right.

Knowva is designed to be simple, safe, and reliable across devices. In most cases, getting started only takes a minute or two.

Signing in to Knowva

Knowva works on any device with a web browser, including phones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers.

Step 1: Open the app

Go to app.knowva.org on the device you want to use. You can also choose App from the main Knowva website menu.

Step 2: Enter your email address

Type in the email address you used when signing up for Knowva.

Step 3: Check your email for your Magic Code

Knowva will send you a one-time-use Magic Code by email. This keeps accounts secure without needing a password.

Enter the code into Knowva when prompted.

We recommend leaving Stay signed in switched on so you don’t need to repeat this step every time.

If the email does not arrive within a few minutes, please check your junk or spam folder.

Step 4: You’re in

Once the code is accepted, you’ll be signed in and ready to explore Knowva.

Staying signed in and cookies

When you select Stay signed in while entering your Magic Code, Knowva uses a small browser cookie to remember your device.

This means you usually only need to sign in once, even when you close the app or browser.

When you might need to sign in again

You may be asked to sign in again if:

  • Browser cookies are cleared or blocked
  • Private or incognito browsing is used
  • A parental control or security tool removes cookies automatically
  • You switch to a different device or browser
  • It's been a very long time since you first signed in

If this happens, simply repeat the sign-in steps and request a new Magic Code.

Cookies used by Knowva are only for keeping you signed in and helping the app work correctly. They are not used for advertising or tracking.

Installing Knowva on your device

Knowva is a web app, which means it runs in your browser but can be installed and used just like a normal app.

Installing on iPhone or iPad (iOS)

  1. Open app.knowva.org in Safari
  2. Tap the Share icon
  3. Select Add to Home Screen

Knowva will now appear on your Home Screen and open like any other app.

Installing on Android devices

  1. Open app.knowva.org in your browser
  2. Tap the three dots menu
  3. Select Add to Home Screen
  4. Choose Install if prompted

Once installed, Knowva will behave like a regular app on your device.

Using Knowva on a computer

On laptops and desktop computers, Knowva runs directly in your browser.

  • Bookmark app.knowva.org
  • Pin the tab
  • Add a shortcut to your desktop (depending on your browser)

This makes it quick and easy to return to Knowva at any time.

Allowlisting Knowva (Parental Controls and School Filters)

Most families will never need to do this. These steps are only needed if videos, audio, or images do not load because of parental controls, school web filters, or network-level safety tools.

Sometimes these filters block parts of Knowva even though the site itself is allowed. Adding Knowva to an allowlist (sometimes called a whitelist or safe list) usually fixes the issue.

Websites to allow

  • knowva.org (for some images and other media)
  • app.knowva.org (the app itself)
  • knowva-cdn.b-cdn.net (images and other media)
  • storage.googleapis.com (images and files needed to make the app work)

Video and audio delivery

Knowva videos and some audio are delivered using Bunny Stream. These files may be served from dynamically generated domains that end in .b-cdn.net. The exact subdomain can vary and cannot be guaranteed to stay the same.

If videos or audio do not play, please check your parental control, school filter, or broadband filter activity logs and allow any blocked Knowva-related domain ending in .b-cdn.net.

How to find the blocked domain

  1. Open Knowva and try to play a video, audio item, or load an image-heavy page.
  2. Open your parental control, school filter, or broadband filter settings.
  3. Look for a Blocked or Recent activity list.
  4. Add the blocked domain to the allowlist.

Help for common devices

  • Home broadband filters:
If you use ISP-level parental controls, add Knowva to the allowlist in your broadband account settings.
  • Schools:
Ask the IT team to allow Knowva domains and any blocked media domains shown in their filter logs.

Common questions and quick checks

If something doesn’t seem to be working as expected, try these quick steps first:

  • Refresh the page
  • Check you are using the correct sign-up email address
  • Look in spam or junk folders for Magic Code emails
  • Make sure your browser is up to date

Knowva does not require downloads, updates, or app store accounts.
